DDT Helps Cook County Driver Reinstate Driving Privileges
By: Attorney Derek Martin
A client driving on a Restricted Drivers Permit is rear-ended on a Sunday — a day she wasn't permitted to drive — and ends up charged with Driving on a Revoked License. We get the charge amended and preserve her ability to reinstate her full license.
On a Sunday morning last year, our client was rear-ended in Countryside, Illinois. The accident wasn’t her fault, but it nearly derailed her life plan.
Our client held a Restricted Drivers Permit (RDP) from a DUI conviction a few years earlier. Her RDP had strict restrictions — she could only drive to and from work and her daughter’s school during specific times. She was not allowed to drive on Sundays.
Her mother was visiting from out of town that day and drove our client and her nieces to the grocery store. During the trip, her mother suffered a diabetic seizure. The grocery store was close to home, so our client made the decision to drive home herself. On the way, she was rear-ended.
The police investigation discovered she was driving outside her RDP, and she was charged with Driving on a Revoked License — a Class A Misdemeanor — at the Bridgeview Courthouse.
A supervision sentence would normally be a positive outcome, but in this case it would have prevented her from reinstating her license at all. We evaluated litigation, but the state’s case was straightforward. Instead, we assembled every positive factor: her employment record, her compliance with her RDP, and her hard work resolving the underlying DUI.
Our initial approaches to the State’s Attorney weren’t successful, but with persistence we convinced the prosecutor to amend the charge to a violation that would not affect her ability to have her license reinstated. Our client was able to accept a promotion at work and reinstate her driving privileges.

October 6, 2026“Had 4 different cases that tied into one and this team resolved all of them that (some) have been open since 2021, which is how long I’ve been without a license. Contacted them in July 2026 after receiving 2 back to back cases on top of 2 already being open and I received my license back in September with only supervision. This team stays in constant communication and was always readily available to text and/ or call with all answers to my questions and concerns being from I’m from another state and only work around the area. Thanks team, you’re appreciated .”

October 6, 2026“I don't think I could've gotten through my DUI without them. They brought my charges down to a misdemeanor, made sure I was aware of every single court date, ensured that I understood everything, and that all essential information was communicated thoroughly and effectively. When I missed a court date on accident, they were able to help me get the warrant dismissed and set a new court date, and reminded me the previous night. All in all, I truly believe that money was well spent with them and I would recommend them to anyone going through a DUI or anything similar.”
